CS2 Season 5: Cache Returns, Armory Expands & Bombs Reworked

One of the biggest changes in Season 5 is the return of Cache to the Active Duty map pool.

Cache replaces Overpass, giving Premier players a fresh competitive battlefield. Teams will need to develop new strategies, utility lineups, and executes as they adapt to the updated competitive map rotation.

Bomb Damage Works Differently Now

Season 5 also introduces a complete overhaul of how bomb explosions work in Counter-Strike 2.

Instead of applying damage in the previous way, the explosion now creates a destructive shockwave that spreads outward from the bombsite.

This new system changes how players survive the blast:

• Players standing close to the bomb will still be eliminated.
• The shockwave dissipates around corners.
• Walls block the blast, preventing damage from passing through solid structures.
• Your health bar now previews whether you’ll survive before the bomb detonates.

These changes reward better positioning during post-plant situations and make the environment itself a more important factor when escaping the explosion.

New Armory Collections

The Armory has also received fresh content thanks to community submissions.

Season 5 adds two new weapon collections:

• Arabesque Collection
• Spy Tech Collection

In addition, two sticker collections are now available:

• Fruits & Vegetables
• Auto Racing

These additions expand the cosmetic content available through the Armory and provide players with new skins and stickers to collect.

More Community Maps

The update also expands the community map selection.

The following maps have been added to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch:

• Boulder
• Fachwerk
• Shelter

Wingman players also receive two new maps:

• Debris
• El Dorado

These additions give players more variety across multiple game modes while showcasing new creations from the Counter-Strike mapping community.

Performance Improvements and Bug Fixes

Alongside the larger gameplay changes, Valve has included several smaller improvements throughout the game.

The update includes:

• Various bug fixes
• Map adjustments
• Improved scoreboard performance

The scoreboard should now respond more smoothly, making it easier to check match statistics throughout a game.
